This is a beautiful silver chest and unlike most will complement contemporary decor as well as traditional. Other websites, including Reed & Barton's own, describe the black leather as "faux leather" and I suppose it is although you can't tell from looking at it or touching it. The phrase "cherry trim" was a little misleading to me. This is really a beautiful cherry wood box with black leather inset on 5 sides. There are 4 rubber feet on the underside to keep it from sliding or scratching fine furniture. It might hold a few serving utensils in addition to the silverware but not many and not large ones.
